Each hurricane season brings a threat of strong storms and potential disaster. While we here in Florida were fortunate enough not to have been hit by super storm Sandy last year, many of us may be wondering what we should be doing to prepare our boats for this type of threat in the coming months.
Sailors, particularly those in the 18tha and 19th centuries, were known for being extremely superstitious. Often their tattoos of choice would reflect these superstitions, and were selected with the aim of alleviating their fears of drowning, becoming lost at sea, not receiving a proper burial in the case of death, etc.
