The 4th of August is the national Coast Guard day to commemorate the establishment of the US Coast Guard. During this month of August, Harbortown Marina would like to celebrate Coast Guard locally and nationally.
A Short History of the US Coast Guard
The Revenue Cutter Service, as it was initially known, was established by the Treasury Department in 1790. Initially, the revenue cutter service had ten cutters used to enforce the first tariff laws.

It was not until 1915 that the service merged with Life Saving Service, and later in 1939, Lighthouse service. The Bureau of Navigation and Steamboat Inspection joined in 1946. The primary role of the US Coast Guard is to safeguard the national, economic and border security of the United States.

Coast Guard Day is celebrated by the personnel of the service, reservists, dependents, civilian members, auxiliaries and retirees. In the coast guard city of Grand Haven, Michigan, the largest Community Festival by the US Coast Guard is held every 4th of August. It is the largest celebration by the Armed Forces branch.
U.S. Coast Guard Station Port Canaveral
Port Canaveral station’s operating region covers 45 miles of shoreline to 30 nautical miles close to Kennedy Space Center and historic Cape Canaveral, as well as the Banana and Indian Rivers. In addition to search and rescue, law enforcement, homeland security, and marine environmental protection, our local coast guard support NASA and the Air Force by providing security zone enforcement rocket launches.

The Harbortown Marina – Canaveral community would like to show our appreciation to our local coast guard. Thank you for your service and all that you do to keep us safe.

Join Harbortown Marina – Canaveral in saying “Thank You” to our US Coast Guard.
